You can play New Game+, which is a tougher version of the game and you can carry over your weapons and armor that you earned in the initial play through. Once you beat the main storyline, there are more challenging options. It’s satisfying to see the cute little cat taking down a giant dragon! There are many dragons to beat throughout the game, and there are some pretty tough dungeons across the map too. The dragon battles were fun and challenging. I completed it in a few hours, and enjoyed it thoroughly! There are some random plot twists at the end, which I won’t spoil for you! Overall, the first play through of the game is fairly simple and not really that difficult. I know I sure didn’t! Eventually I collected a crown and fuzzy robes of my own! After all, you can’t let down the King of the Catpital!
You have to help out the cats in the different villages across the map. There are also side quests in addition to the main storyline. If you collect the same armor or weapon more than once, it levels up the item! So there’s a lot of reason to replay dungeons and collect as much as you can. When you change your outfit, this is reflected on your character as you play in the open world map. The story is really cute and the characters are too. As a gamer who enjoys both fighting action and collection-oriented games, I was hooked right away! It doesn’t take itself too seriously and the game developers The Gentlebros even inserted themselves within the game (in a secret area)! You can unlock the Gentlebros armor too. Some of it is really strong! Some of it, well…Īnother awesome thing about this game is it’s sense of humor.

What I like about Cat Quest is that you not only level up your strength and magic powers, you also collect and upgrade weapons and armor. Like most games, the story starts with the main character losing a loved one and now has to go find/rescue them from an evil baddie. We’re talking special cats called “Dragonblood” who are super strong dragon fighters! Because of course I would think that dragons and cats would be enemies…! It makes perfect. It’s easy to skip a few save stones, and end up in a dungeon with an overpowered beast destroying you resulting in a loss of a good chunk of progress.Did you know that there’s an epic adventure waiting for you on the Nintendo Switch eShop? And it’s under $15? And it’s starring CATS?!?!!? Be sure to use them often as you lose any progress gained that was not saved. In each of the cites and dungeons, there are save stones. S tage hazards can also affect your enemies, so try to use them to your advantage. Be aware of environmental damage in the form of automatic or touch-sensitive protruding spikes and cactus plants to name a couple. Blue and Gold orbs and treasure chests are scattered around the map. Throughout the game, you must collect items in crates and equip them onto the cat and dog. All of these moves can be performed if your magic bar is full, which is replenished by battling enemies. The latter provides the ability to replenish mana. The powers include Furry Shield and Manapaw. Later in the game, you will earn additional magic stones that can be mapped to the rest of the shoulder buttons. Use the L button to perform that initial magic attack. The first powers that our heroes receive are Flamepurr and Freezepaw. Eventually, you will gain the ability to shock enemies as you roll, giving an additional hit as you dodge around during a battle. Press B to roll and evade from enemy attacks or to travel faster around the map. Although you cannot use long and short-range weapons at the same time, the game does allow you to freely switch weapons whenever you like. You can also equip long-range weapons like a lightning staff, fire staff, and ice staff. There are close-range melee weapons like a mace, sword, and some unconventional items like a dumbbell. You have two different styles of weapons to use. If both protagonists gets knocked out, then you are taken back to your last save point, which can cause you to lose a bit of progress.Ĭo-op mode is exactly the same but with a friend.
You can hover over your knocked out partner to bring him back to life. If the main character you are using passes out, it automatically switches to the other character. You switch between the two characters by pressing the X button at any time. In solo mode, you control both the cat and dog. After being defeated by an enemy on a higher level than me, I started to work on slowing down the button commands and dodging and attacking as opposed to spamming the Y button. At first, I found myself button-mashing my way through the game. Travel through the world battling monsters, and upgrading your skills. Follow Kirry (a Navi like character) as he takes you from one objective to the next.
